Marietta Gardeners Plant Sale

October 2014 - Plant Sale Update

Our members have started working on plants for the 2015 plant sale.

Confederate roses are in full bloom now until frost.  They are so striking you know why everyone should find a place for one.  We will be rooting first year plants for next year and we have a few two year old plants for the sale as well.

The angel trumpets are in full bloom and thy are very fragrant.  All three colors - yellow, white, and pink have done well this year.  We will have first year plants next May for the sale.

The yellow butterfly bushes that were started this summer are now ready for the one gallon pots. We will  have several for sale in May.  They are excellent for all species of butterflies and hummingbirds also feed on them. Honeybees are especially fond of  the yellow variety of this bush.

Our members are gathering seed from the annual plants they grow for the sale including seed for cardinal vines,  love in a puff, moon flowers and hyacinth beans.

Members are reporting that their perennial shade plants are doing very well this year.  These perennials are being divided this fall and should be available for the plant sale in May.

Our members with day lilies have marked the color and type of bloom.  The plants will be ready for sale next year

We have started our giant red hibiscus plants for 2015.  The giant red hibiscus bloom on second year growth, so the plants we sell next year will be ready to bloom for the new owners.  We should have a few pink giant hibiscus plants for next year.

Our members with canna and calla lilies are also marking the blooming plants, so they can tell which colors the sale plants will be when they bloom.

We will try to have the plants we have on the web page, but weather damage, insects or other circumstances could cause us to omit  some plants at the last minute.

Our plants will range in price from $1 to $30 dollars.  Most of our plants will be under $6 dollars. We accept cash or checks for payment.  We do not accept credit or debit cards.

Members (recognized by red shirts) will be present to answer questions about types of plants, growing conditions, blooming times, and growth habits. Since our members grow the plants they have in depth knowledge about the plants we sell. Most of the plants are large single specimens in individual pots.

Plant signs will help you locate the plants and give details about size and growing instructions You can take a picture of the sign so you have care information when you plant your plant at home.

The garden council will be selling Atlas gloves at the plant sale.  The gloves come in small, medium, and large and in various colors.
